How to use this passphrase generator
- Choose how many words to use. Four is the default.
- Pick a hyphen or underscore as the separator.
- Keep capital letters and numbers on unless you need a simpler phrase.

How is this different from a password generator?
The password generator creates a random character string. This page creates random words joined by a separator. Use a character password when a site has a short max length. Use a passphrase when you have to type it often and the site allows a longer secret.
How many words should I use?
Four random words is a reasonable default. Add words if the account is high value. Three is the minimum on this page and is weaker.
Are the words stored or sent anywhere?
No. The word list is bundled with this page (based on the EFF short wordlist). Picking and joining words happens in your browser. The passphrase is not saved.
How should I share a passphrase?
The same way you should share any password: not in a permanent chat or inbox. Share it in a note that can disappear.
